Catholic cemetery, Romanshorn TG
Starting in 2025, a 110-square-meter amphibian pond with 443 square meters of ecologically valuable surrounding habitat will be created on an unused lawn in Romanshorn. This habitat consists of tall forb communities, wet meadows, and flower meadows, as well as native trees and shrubs. In total, more than 60 native plant species were planted. The project is expected to benefit various amphibian species such as the common toad, reptiles, and many other animal species dependent on wetlands. In May 2026, the following animal species were observed: Alpine newt larvae (Ichthyosaura alpestris), common wall lizards (Podarcis muralis), Greater white-toothed shrew (Crocidura russula), faucet snail (Bithynia tentaculata), common backswimmer (Notonecta glauca), blood-red darter (Sympetrum sanguineum), emperor dragonfly (Anax imperator), spindle tree web moth (Yponomeuta cagnagella) and small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae). As a result of this project, the ecological value of the nature area has improved from a biotope value of 2 to 5–6.
The project connects six smaller existing biotopes in the neighbourhood and provides a valuable addition to the ecologically significant Schlossberg and Lake Constance park habitats.
This project was initiated by Get Nature Positive and implemented in collaboration with the Grüner Güggel group of the Catholic parish. However, the area is not available for offsetting sealed surfaces.
